Equity markets could tank in the coming months if the coronavirus crisis persists and the economic recovery takes longer than expected to materialize, the International Monetary Fund has warned.
"The problems we've had here — the number of cases, the number of deaths, the number of hospitalizations — was not inevitable,” Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel told CNBC on Tuesday.
The U.K. revealed further measures aimed at curbing a rapid spread of coronavirus cases in England with a three-tier alert system put in place, in addition to local lockdowns and nationwide restrictions.
"We all need to be very practical and stop this rhetoric of trying to paint each other's vaccine black. It's very unhealthy, it's very unethical and very unproductive," said Kirill Dmitriev, chief executive of RDIF.
Finance Minister Rishi Sunak said Friday that firms whose premises have to shut over the winter period as part of local or national restrictions will receive grants.
The International Monetary Fund has called for more support from global governments to reduce the gender gap that has worsened by the coronavirus crisis.
