'Ordeal by Innocence' spins Agatha Christie into juicy miniseries
Amazon is ramping up production of new programming, but in the meantime the streaming service is making the most out of British imports -- and specifically, miniseries. After the splendid "A Very English Scandal" comes "Agatha Christie's Ordeal by Innocence," a star-speckled three-part mystery, juicily constructed from one of the prolific crime writer's later works.
'I Am Paul Walker' brings more nostalgia than depth to actor's life
Paramount Network has carved out a morbid niche chronicling the lives of celebrities who tragically died too soon. Add to the likes of John F. Kennedy Jr., Heath Ledger and Bruce Lee its latest documentary, "I Am Paul Walker," a dutifully praise-filled ode to "The Fast and the Furious" star, told almost entirely through interviews with his family and friends.

Spike Lee connects past to urgent present in 'BlacKkKlansman'
Spike Lee films can be guilty of feeling didactic, but the material suits the message -- and the director's passion -- in "BlacKkKlansman," a fiery, wild true story infused by an overt cautionary warning that the past could be prologue. Tense, provocative and entertaining, it's not clear how well the movie will age, but Lee's latest joint feels tailor-made for the current moment.

'Insatiable' feeds appetite for juicy, Southern-fried soap
"Insatiable" is an unexpected little gem, a series so floridly over the top as to feel like a send-up of 1980s soap operas on 21st-century steroids. Everyone, seemingly, is hot for someone they can't have or who's utterly oblivious to their interest, in a Netflix series that throws together teen beauty pageants, raging hormones and closeted desires in one surprisingly binge-worthy stew.
'Crazy Rich Asians' serves up auspicious mix of romance, laughs
"Crazy Rich Asians" understandably feels like an occasion -- a big, colorful coming-out party for Asian (and especially Asian-American) talent. Set aside the cultural significance, though, and director Jon M. Chu has delivered a highly satisfying, decidedly old-fashioned romantic comedy, garnished with soapy elements and enough mouth-watering shots of food to inspire a big meal before or after.
