Oscar nominations: Once an outsider, Netflix might be the star in a year of streaming
After record-low viewing numbers for the Emmys and more recently the Golden Globes, the Academy Awards unveil their nominations on Monday staring down the barrel of a similar scenario. In 'Kid 90,' Soleil Moon Frye opens a time capsule about being young and famous in the '90s
Turns out Soleil Moon Frye -- TV's "Punky Brewster" -- meticulously documented her formative years, recently wading back through home movies, phone messages and photos and assembling them into "Kid 90," a documentary that she calls "A true chronological blueprint of what it was to grow up as a teenager in the '90s." But Frye was a special teen -- one with Zelig-like exposure to practically everyone else who was young and famous during those years.

'Long Live Rock' celebrates hard rock's communal vibe but downplays its excess

'The One' ranks second among dramas about finding love through DNA
"The One" takes an enticing idea --what would happen if everyone could be romantically paired with their perfect match by DNA? -- and squanders that by turning it into a mundane mystery. It's not bad, as Netflix's British binges go, but nor does the eight-episode run foster much of a love connection.
