The number of new Covid-19 cases per day in the U.S. jumped 42% over the past week to an average of about 38,200 on Sunday, based on a seven-day moving average.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday that under the revised plan, indoor dining will be allowed to resume at a later date that has yet to be determined.
There were 45,255 additional Covid-19 cases reported across the nation on Friday, bringing the total to more than 2.46 million cases, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
"People are infecting other people and ultimately you will infect someone who's vulnerable," Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said during a press briefing.
San Francisco Mayor London Breed said in a tweet Friday that the city will temporarily delay its planned reopening for Monday, which included nail salons, barbershops, outdoor bars.
Dr. Anthony Fauci said he personally is an advocate of "flooding the system with testing, so you really get a good handle about what is going on in the community."
Some states might have to consider shutting down businesses and implementing restrictions on movement again to keep the health-care system from getting overwhelmed, Fauci said.
"We worked very hard to get the viral transmission rate down," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "We don't want to see it go up because a lot of people come into this region and they can literally bring the infection with them."
More than 45,000 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in the U.S. on Wednesday, a record that surpassed the previous April 26 peak by over 9,000 cases, according to an NBC News tally.
Singapore's telcos were given the final approval on Wednesday by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) to start building the two nationwide networks.
