Insider Trading Trends Show Negative Signals for NVDA, CRM, and PANW

3 years 3 months ago
Shares of the  technology companies roared back swiftly in the first half of 2023, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to capitalize on the gains. Taking advantage of this price growth, corporate insiders sold shares of ( NASDAQ:NVDA ), Salesforce’s ( NYSE:CRM ), and Palo Alto Networks ( NASDAQ:PANW ), according to our  Insiders Trading Activity tool. Given the selloff, the insider trading trends remain negative for these stocks. However, it is important to highlight here that corporate insiders selling stocks are not necessarily a bad sign. Keeping track of insiders’ activities helps investors make sound investment decisions, especially if these trades are informative. TipRanks scans SEC filings to determine whether insider trades are informative or uninformative, and we display that data on our Insider Trading pages. Informative Buy or Sell transactions indicate insiders’ sentiment and possess a higher predictive ability. With this background, let’s dig deeper to see the recent insider transactions on NVDA, CRM, and PANW stocks. What is the Forecast for Nvidia Stock? Thanks to  Nvidia’s leadership in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) space, the chip company is undoubtedly a solid long-term bet. Yet the insiders sold the shares due to the company's impressive performance (up 218% year-to-date). According to TipRanks’ Insider Trading Activity Tool, the insider confidence signal is "Very Negative" for NVDA stock. In June 2023, 13 insiders, including two of its directors,  Tench Coxe and  Mark A. Stevens, executed  16 Sell transactions in NVDA stock. Overall, insiders sold NVDA shares worth $191.6 million in the last three months. Moreover, the Insider Trading Activity trend has remained negative in the last six months, with the stock witnessing 13 Informative Sell transactions. (See the image below).  While  NVDA stock has a negative signal from insiders, it commands a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks, reflecting 30 Buy, two Hold, and one Sell recommendations. However, analysts’ average price target of $484.30 implies a limited upside potential of 4.24%.  Interestingly, TipRanks offers  daily insider transactions as well as a list of the  top corporate insiders. It also provides  a list of hot stocks that boast either a Very Positive or Positive insider confidence signal. What is the Prediction for Salesforce Stock? Salesforce’s ability to effectively drive revenues and defend its margins bodes well for future growth. Further, benefits from the ongoing digital shift are positive. Given the favorable backdrop, shares of this cloud-based software company have risen by about 72% on a year-to-date basis.  Thanks to this appreciation in price, insiders sold CRM stock in the past quarter. Per our Insider Trading Activity Tool, the insider confidence signal for CRM stock is "Very Negative." So far in July, four insiders have executed  13 Sell transactions in CRM stock. Further, insiders, including  its CEO Marc Benioff, sold CRM shares worth $136.6 million in the last three months. Moreover, the Insider Trading Activity trend has remained negative in the last six months, with the stock witnessing four Informative Sell transactions.  Salesforce stock has a Moderate Buy consensus rating on TipRanks based on 22 Buys, 10 Holds, and one Sell recommendation. Further, these analysts’ average price target of $236.63 implies 3.79% upside potential from current levels.  What is the Future of Palo Alto Stock? Shares of the cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks are up over 79% despite a weak macro environment that has made enterprises more cautious in their spending. While PANW stock is poised to benefit from the ongoing shift to the cloud and digital transformation, insiders have consistently sold its stock in the first half of 2023.  According to TipRanks’ Insider Trading Activity Tool, the insider confidence signal is "Negative" for PANW stock. In June 2023, three insiders executed  three Sell transactions in NVDA stock. Insiders, including its CEO Nikesh Arora, sold PANW shares worth $121 million in the last three months. Moreover, insider trading trends show that PANW stock witnessed six Informative Sell transactions in the past six months. Nonetheless, PANW stock sports a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks, reflecting 29 Buy and two Hold recommendations. Analysts’ average price target of $257.59 suggests a mere 3.02% upside potential from current levels.  Bottom Line The recent rally in share prices of these companies has driven the valuations higher, limiting the upside potential in the near term. The possibility of these stocks experiencing a correction remains a wait-and-see story. However, the bearish signal from insiders' Informative Sell transactions, significant price appreciation, and expensive valuation suggest that retail investors must take caution before investing in these shares near the current price levels.  Disclosure

Snowflake Stock (NASDAQ:SNOW): This AI Stock Actually Looks Cheap

3 years 3 months ago
To the untrained investor, Snowflake ( NASDAQ:SNOW ) stock may be one of the priciest stocks in the market right now. However, when you consider its financial trajectory and impressive position in the AI race, it becomes more apparent that Snowflake stock looks cheap compared to its growth prospects. Undoubtedly, AI stocks are all the rage these days, with chip stocks like Nvidia ( NASDAQ:NVDA ) hogging the headlines and capturing most of the investor euphoria. We must not forget about the software plays, though, as they may be next up to the plate once investors look to other places to find value in the wild world of AI. The AI Boom Has Just Begun, and It's Not Just About Nvidia! Nvidia stock boomed on unprecedented AI chip demand. Once consumers and businesses have the chips and AI firepower, they could go a while without buying more, especially for the firms that overordered. In that regard, investors shouldn't expect Nvidia to keep one-upping itself consistently. It's the AI play that we all have heard about non-stop of late. After the AI chip boom could come a software boom as firms look to harness the power of generative and predictive AI. Indeed, big-tech names have been leading the way on the front of software, with the FAANG cohort leading the way, pushing price-to-earnings (P/E) multiples toward the higher end of the historical range. The "Magnificent Seven" stocks, as MadMoney host Jim Cramer calls them, are wonderful tech companies that have a solid footing in the AI scene. Looking beyond big tech, though, I do see plenty of underappreciated AI growth stories, such as Snowflake, that may be next for a huge upside move as the AI rally continues. Snowflake Stock: An AI Stock to Play the Software Side of Things At this juncture, not only does Snowflake stand out as an AI software winner, but one that could catch investors and analysts off-guard in a similar way Nvidia did. It's hard to gauge the type of explosive growth that AI can bring to the table. The floodgates for AI really opened earlier this year when the ChatGPT headlines hit us from left, right, and center. With AI at its tipping point, we may see the "AI jolt" shift from hardware (chip plays) to data plays. Snowflake is a powerful company that stands behind the data cloud. Let's think about what goes into building a generative AI. Not only does a company need the hardware (think Nvidia chips), but they also need data, publically available and private. It's the private data that's more valuable and could help companies gain an edge when it comes to generative AI. Snowflake's data cloud not only helps firms more easily manage massive data sets, but its Data Marketplace can also act as a go-to place for people to transact one of the most precious resources in the AI age -- data. Arguably, private, proprietary data could be more valuable than AI chips themselves. There's private data that money can't buy, and it's the data advantage that could separate the haves from the have-nots in the world of generative and predictive AI technologies. Snowflake: Smart Partnerships Should Have Investors Excited Nvidia has been teaming up with a lot of firms these days. Everybody wants in on the AI action, and there's no better way than to make a deal with the visionary Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. Snowflake and Nvidia announced a partnership at the latest Snowflake summit to help firms build LLMs (Large Language Models) using proprietary data in the Snowflake Data Cloud. Indeed, Nvidia also stands out to be a winner on the software side of the AI race. Regardless, I do think Snowflake faces more upside as a less-obvious AI stock that investors may still need time to better appreciate. Perhaps it'll take a profound quarterly beat for Snowflake stock to get the respect it deserves. For now, it's one of my favorite AI stocks on the software side. Aside from Nvidia, Snowflake also has an AI partnership with AI heavyweight Microsoft ( NASDAQ:MSFT ). Altogether, it seems like Snowflake is ready for the AI wave to give its stock a lift. Is SNOW Stock a Buy, According to Analysts? Turning to Wall Street, SNOW stock comes in as a Moderate Buy. Out of 32 analyst ratings, there are 25 Buys, six Holds, and one Sell recommendation. The  average Snowflake stock price target is $189.86, implying upside potential of 3.1%. Analyst price targets range from a low of $105.00 per share to a high of $235.00 per share. The Bottom Line on SNOW Stock Snowflake has the AI foundation to soar higher from here. While the stock trades at a lofty 26.1 times price-to-sales, that's not as expensive as it sounds, at least according to Scotiabank analyst Patrick Colville, who recently issued a massive upgrade on the stock (price target to $212 from $137). Mr. Colville sees $10 billion in product revenue, with free cash flow margins of around 30% in Fiscal Year 2029. I think Colville is right to give Snowflake the long view. Still, I'd argue there's room for further price target hikes should the AI boost hit Snowflake sooner rather than later! Disclosure

QQQ ETF: Should Investors Worry as the Nasdaq-100 Index Gets a Makeover?

3 years 3 months ago
The Nasdaq-100 index ( NDX ) will undergo a “Special Rebalance” before the market opens on Monday, July 24, 2023. In simple terms, rebalancing means that the index will readjust the weight of its components. Several ETFs, including the famous Invesco QQQ Trust ( QQQ ) ETF ( Exchange-Traded fund) that have the NDX index as their benchmark, will be impacted as they are required to make adjustments to their portfolios. However, investors shouldn’t worry much as the move doesn’t include removing or adding any securities.  The rebalancing intends to lower the Nasdaq-100 Index’s concentration in a handful of mega-cap stocks. For instance, the buzz around Generative  AI (Artificial Intelligence) and overall buying in shares of large technology companies, including Apple ( NASDAQ:AAPL ), Microsoft ( NASDAQ:MSFT ), Nvidia ( NASDAQ:NVDA ), Meta Platforms ( NASDAQ:META ), Amazon ( NASDAQ:AMZN ), and Alphabet ( NASDAQ:GOOGL )( NASDAQ:GOOG ) have increased their weightage in the Nasdaq-100 Index.  Thus, through rebalancing, the index will be redistributing the weight of these large companies to lower overconcentration risk. Meanwhile, ETFs will have to sell some of their holdings to realign their portfolio and reallocate these funds to other stocks in the portfolio.  Is QQQ a Buy or a Sell? The announcement of the rebalancing of the Nasdaq-100 Index didn’t have any negative impact on QQQ’s price. The ETF inched up around 3.5% in the past five trading days. Overall, the ETF is up about 43% on a year-to-date basis. The QQQ ETF has an  Outperform Smart Score of eight on TipRanks, suggesting it has the potential to outperform the broader market averages. Moreover, per the recommendations of 1,732 analysts giving stock forecasts for the  holdings of QQQ, the 12-month average  Invesco QQQ Trust ETF price target of $397.12 implies 4.76% upside potential from current levels. Also, the ETF carries a Moderate Buy consensus rating on TipRanks. Among these analysts (providing ratings on its holdings), 66.51% have given a Buy rating, 29.73% have assigned a Hold rating, and 3.75% have given a Sell rating. Disclosure
