How to get a jump on saving for retirement in your 20s

9 years 3 months ago
My 23-year-old daughter works part-time and plans to go to graduate school in the near future. I want her to get an early start on saving for retirement, so I'm suggesting she open a Roth IRA account. Is this a good idea? And if she opens a Roth, how should she invest the money? -- M.L.

Should I pay off my mortgage early instead of saving for my kids' college?

9 years 3 months ago
Our only debt is our home mortgage. We have 19 years left if we continue making payments as scheduled. I'm anxious to pay it off sooner, but also need to save for our kids' college (4 year old & 2 year old). Should we put 100% of our focus towards our kids' college, and ignore the mortgage? Or 50/50? Or knock out the mortgage as quick as possible and then ramp up college savings? -- Karen
